Question 1

What is Ethereum Classic (ETC)?

Accepted Answer

After the DAO hack in 2016 the Ethereum community split: the majority accepted a rollback of the disputed transactions, while a minority stayed on the original chain, where ledger immutability is treated as a principle beyond revision. That is how Ethereum Classic came about — a smart-contract platform that kept proof-of-work mining after Ethereum moved to proof of stake. Contracts port over almost unchanged, and the community later capped issuance with a declining reward schedule.

Question 2

How many ETC will there ever be?

Accepted Answer

The maximum supply is capped at 210.7 M ETC.

Question 3

What sector does Ethereum Classic belong to?

Accepted Answer

Ethereum Classic is grouped under: Smart Contract Platform, Proof of Work (PoW).

Question 4

Where is Ethereum Classic traded?

Accepted Answer

We track 8 trading pairs for ETC; the full list with venues is on the coin's "Exchanges" tab.

Question 5

How far back does the Ethereum Classic price history go?

Accepted Answer

Our database holds 3,043 days of daily price history for ETC.

Question 6

What is Ethereum Classic ranked by market capitalisation?

Accepted Answer

Ethereum Classic is ranked #68 by market capitalisation, at 1.35B $. Market capitalisation is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with both — a coin can climb the ranking without its price rising, simply by issuing more.

Question 7

How much of the ETC supply is already issued?

Accepted Answer

158.7 M ETC are in circulation, which is 75.3 % of the declared maximum. The remainder enters the market on the schedule written into the protocol, and until it does, the circulating figure is what market capitalisation is computed from — not the cap.

Question 8

How has Ethereum Classic performed over the year?

Accepted Answer

Over the last twelve months the price of ETC fell by 41.6 %. That is the change of the quote itself and says nothing about what comes next: crypto drawdowns of tens of percent within a year are ordinary, not exceptional.

Question 9

Is Ethereum Classic a coin or a token?

Accepted Answer

Ethereum Classic is the native coin of its own blockchain: transaction fees in that network are paid in it, and its issuance is set by the protocol rather than by a contract on someone else's chain.
