Carrier makes heating and cooling systems — from residential to industrial.
The company was spun out of a conglomerate and has been simplifying since: it sold the security and fire businesses and bought a European heat pump maker. The point is to focus on climate, where regulation itself creates demand.
Two structural flows favour it: banning older refrigerants forces early equipment replacement, and the shift of heating from gas to heat pumps is supported by subsidies in Europe and the United States. The flip side is dependence on those subsidies and on the housing cycle. A substantial share of revenue comes from replacing failed equipment rather than from new construction, which makes the result less cyclical than that of housing-market suppliers. The company pays a dividend.
