Bittensor TAO

Bittensor builds a market for machine learning in which the protocol pays for useful work. The network is divided into subnets, each with its own task — language models, image generation, retrieval, data processing. Miners submit the output of their models and validators score its quality; emissions follow those scores, and the subnets in turn compete for a share of total emission.

The core idea is that rewards follow judged usefulness rather than resources burned, as under proof of work. The vulnerability follows directly: the distribution is only as good as validators are honest and competent. The number of subnets is limited and a slot has to be bought, which ties demand for the coin to how many teams want to launch a task of their own.

The monetary design echoes Bitcoin in form — supply is capped at 21 million TAO and emission halves periodically. TAO itself is needed for staking, for registering in subnets and for paying access.

Rewards are allocated by validator scoring, so the network's economics are only as sound as those validators are honest and competent.
