YATEC is the Yakutsk Fuel and Energy Company, the main supplier of natural gas to central Yakutia. The region is not connected to the country's unified gas transmission system, so the company supplies it within an isolated, self-contained network. Its shares trade on the Moscow Exchange under the ticker YAKG.
The isolation of the market shapes the entire structure of the business. The company produces gas and supplies it to consumers in Yakutia — power plants, boiler houses, industry and households. There are physically no competitors inside this closed system: gas from other producers simply cannot reach it.
The flip side of that same isolation is a ceiling on demand. It is limited by the region's own consumption and does not grow along with the global market, while the price for domestic consumers is regulated by the state.
That is why the company's strategy is tied to breaking out of this closed system: gas liquefaction projects for shipment by sea have been discussed as a way to turn local reserves into an export commodity. Such projects are capital-intensive and take years before the first cargo is shipped.

Strengths and weaknesses describe the business itself. Opportunities and threats describe what may happen around it.
It produces natural gas and gas condensate in central Yakutia and supplies them to consumers in the republic: power plants, boiler houses, industrial enterprises and households.
Because of distances and conditions: central Yakutia is far from the country's trunk pipelines, and its gas supply was historically built as a separate network based on local fields.
On the one hand, the absence of competitors: gas from other producers does not enter this network. On the other, a hard ceiling: there is no one to sell to beyond what the region consumes until a way to ship the gas out has been built.
