The question "what is the price right now" has several correct answers, and that is not a data failure.
What a trading mode is
A set of rules: settlement period, eligible participants, price step, hours. One instrument can trade in the main mode, in a mode with a different settlement period, in a negotiated mode and in the evening session.
Why prices diverge
A different settlement period means a different cost of money between trade and settlement. Different liquidity across modes means different spreads. In secondary modes there may be no trades at all, and the last price there will be stale.
The main mode
For equities and most bonds it is the main trading mode with a central counterparty. Its prices are treated as "the market" and used to calculate indices.
What it means for an investor
Check which mode a displayed price belongs to — especially in illiquid securities and over-the-counter segments. And understand that an order lands in a specific mode: get it wrong and you can end up in a segment with no liquidity.
Trading periods
Besides the main session there are the opening auction, the closing auction and the evening session. Prices behave differently at the boundaries, and the first minutes after the open are the worst time for a market order: Market and limit orders: what speed costs you.
