Recipes: TradeAlmanac and your broker’s MCP server

Connect two MCP servers to one agent — ours and your broker’s. We give data and signals, the broker gives quotes and execution; TradeAlmanac sends no real orders, and its portfolio is a paper one. Below: how to connect both, and three ready-made requests.

Who does what

TradeAlmanac

  • Market data: dividends and record dates, stock rankings, calendar effects.
  • Indicators, among them the fear and greed index.
  • Your watchlists and alerts.
  • A paper portfolio with no money in it.

Your broker

  • Your real positions and account balances.
  • Trading quotes.
  • Placing and executing an order — with your confirmation at the broker.

TradeAlmanac has no access to your brokerage account and sends no orders to the broker.

Two connections side by side

In a client that reads a configuration file, both servers stand side by side under different names.

Configuration with two MCP servers

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "tradealmanac": {
      "url": "https://tradealmanac.com/mcp"
    },
    "broker": {
      "url": "https://mcp.your-broker.example/mcp"
    }
  }
}

The address of the second server is a placeholder: the real one comes from your broker, in its documentation or account.

How to add a server to your client — step by step for your client

Three scenarios

Copy a request whole and paste it into the agent’s chat. Each begins with data and ends with your decision.

  • A. The signal is ours — the decision is yours — the order is at the broker

    What you get: The agent checks the nearest dividend record dates against your real positions and proposes an order, but does not place it.

    Request to the agent

    Take the nearest dividend record dates from TradeAlmanac for the securities on my watchlist and check them against my real positions at the broker. For the securities where I hold a position, propose an order and show me its terms; take the price from the broker’s quotes. Do not place anything without my confirmation.

    TradeAlmanac

    • Returns the watchlist: the Russian securities you put on it.
    • Returns the nearest dividend record dates for those securities.

    Broker

    • Returns your positions and balances and, for an order, a trading quote.
    • Accepts an order only after your confirmation.

    Where the agent stops and asks you: Before any order: the agent shows the security, the quantity, the price and the side, and waits for your “yes”. Without it nothing appears at the broker.

  • B. On the paper account first

    What you get: The rule runs first on the paper portfolio, where no money is involved, and after a month its result can be compared with your real account.

    Request to the agent

    I run a rule on my TradeAlmanac paper portfolio: hold the five securities from my watchlist with the best place in the TradeAlmanac ranking that I will name. Look at what the paper portfolio holds now and show me which paper orders are needed to bring it in line with the rule, and why. Do not place anything without my confirmation, and do not create real orders at the broker.

    TradeAlmanac

    • Paper orders are placed with paper_order_place; the holdings and trades are read with paper_portfolio_state and paper_trades_list.
    • Every such order is a paper one: no real order is sent anywhere. You see the result in your account.

    Broker

    • After a month, returns your real positions and balances — to compare with the paper result.

    Where the agent stops and asks you: Before each paper order. You open the paper account yourself, in your account on the site; the agent does not create it. The agent has no schedule: you repeat this request once a week yourself.

  • C. An alert as the occasion

    What you get: An alert tells you the index has entered the zone you named, and a draft order waits at the broker for you to confirm or reject.

    Request to the agent

    Set an alert in TradeAlmanac for the moment the fear and greed index of Russia enters the extreme fear zone. When I come back to you with that notification, prepare a draft order at the broker for the security I name. Do not place anything without my confirmation.

    TradeAlmanac

    • Sets the alert (alert_create): the extreme fear zone means index values below 25 on the 0 to 100 scale.
    • Checks once a day on the day’s close and fires once when the zone is entered; the notification arrives in your account.

    Broker

    • Prepares a draft order and waits for your confirmation.

    Where the agent stops and asks you: A threshold on the index is set as a zone, not a number: “below 20” cannot be set, and the agent will say so. It does not send the draft at the broker until you confirm.

Limits

  • A paper account is not money: an order in it buys and sells nothing in reality.
  • TradeAlmanac data is not trading quotes: the broker sets the price of an order.

The rights an agent gets from us are granted separately — for watchlists, for alerts and for the paper portfolio — and are revoked in your account: “Connected agents”
