About the company Magnit
Security pageMagnit is one of the two largest grocery retail chains in Russia: thousands of convenience stores, supermarkets and pharmacies across the country. The company started out as a wholesale trader of household chemicals in Krasnodar and grew into a federal chain with its own production and logistics. Its shares trade on the Moscow Exchange under the ticker MGNT.
What the company does
Grocery retail lives on turnover, not on markup: the shopper comes in several times a week, the ticket is small, and the gap between the purchase price and the shelf price is measured in single-digit percentages. Profit is therefore determined by two things — footfall and the cost of serving it.
Hence two lines of work. The first is network density: the closer a store is to home, the more often people drop in, and the cheaper it is to deliver goods to it from the distribution centre. The second is private labels and in-house production: a product sold under the retailer's own label earns a higher margin than someone else's brand on the same shelf.
Digital channels are a separate matter: delivery and partnerships with aggregators. They are growing fast, but they cost more than ordinary retailing, because behind every order there is a picker and a courier.
Business lines
Convenience stores
The core format: small stores within walking distance, which generate most of the revenue.
Supermarkets and large formats
Stores with a wide product range and a higher average ticket.
Drugstores and pharmacies
Stores selling household chemicals, cosmetics and medicines — a business line with a higher markup.
In-house production and logistics
Food production facilities and a network of distribution centres, which lower the cost of the goods on the shelf.

Business review
Strengths and weaknesses describe the business itself. Opportunities and threats describe what may happen around it.
Strengths
- The scale of the chain and its coverage, including in small towns.
- Its own logistics and in-house production of part of the product range.
- Demand for groceries depends little on the state of the economy.
Weaknesses
- A thin margin: rising staff and logistics costs eat it up quickly.
- Fierce competition with the market-leading chain and with the hard discounters.
- Transparency and the predictability of payouts declined after the change in the shareholder structure.
Opportunities
- Market consolidation: small chains are leaving, and their share goes to the federal players.
- The growth of private labels lifts the margin without raising shelf prices.
- The development of high-markup formats — drugstores, pharmacies, ready-to-eat food.
- Grocery retail is resilient to a downturn: people buy food in any phase of the economic cycle.
Threats
- The markup is capped by competition and by the regulator's attention to the prices of socially important goods.
- Staff costs are rising along with the labour shortage, and the chain means tens of thousands of employees.
- Marketplaces and delivery services are taking away part of the purchases, above all non-food ones.
- Expansion requires investment in stores and logistics, which competes with payouts to shareholders.
Frequently asked questions
What does Magnit do?
It is a retail chain: convenience stores, supermarkets, cosmetics and household chemicals stores, and pharmacies. The company also owns food production facilities and distribution centres that serve its stores.
Why is the margin in grocery retail so low?
Because the competition is on price, and the shopper compares it every day. The gap between the purchase price and the shelf price stays in single-digit percentages, and profit is built up through enormous turnover, not through markup.
What is a private label?
It is a product that is made to the chain's order and sold under its own brand. It is cheaper for the shopper and more profitable for the chain, because the price does not include a third-party manufacturer's spending on advertising and promotion.
Issuer profile
What the company does
The company is classified under the «Retail & consumer» sector, using the taxonomy we apply when comparing securities with one another.
The same sector holds 26 issuers on the platform, and their figures are computed by one method — so this company's revenue, profit and leverage can be compared with them directly.
The company is registered in Russia and identified in regulatory disclosure by tax number 2309085638. That number locates its statements in state registries regardless of how its name is spelled — and the spelling differs even between official documents.
Listed securities
The issuer has 10 securities listed: 1 share class, 9 bond issues. All are shown on this page, including those trading in different modes and different currencies.
A further 1 security have already matured or been delisted. They stay in the list below deliberately: together they show how long the company has been borrowing on the market and how regularly it repays.
Across Moscow Exchange quotation list levels the securities split as follows: 8 at level 1, 2 at level 3. The level reflects how strict the disclosure, turnover and track-record requirements the issue meets are — not how attractive the investment is.
Bond issues
The nearest issue matures on 17 August 2027 and the farthest on 13 November 2029. That spread means the issuer borrows both short and long, and the yields of these issues will differ for the simple reason that the money is lent for different terms.
The largest issue by face value is RU000A105TP1, with a face value of 1,000.00 ₽ per bond, maturing on 3 February 2028. Bond prices in the order book are quoted as a percentage of face value, so a quote of 98.4 means 98.4 % of that amount rather than an absolute price.
Dividend history
Between 2015 and 2025 the issuer made 17 payouts whose record date has already passed. A board recommendation or a forecast does not enter this history, because no money has been paid on them yet.
The most recent payout was 560.00 ₽ per security with a record date of 9 January 2025. That is the amount before tax: the broker withholds it on crediting, so less arrives in the account.
Financial statements
The most recent annual report we hold is for 2026 under RAS. The standard is named for a reason: IFRS and RAS compute the same quantities by different rules, disagree by design and are never averaged.
Revenue for 2026 was 103.00M ₽.
That is 75.0 % less than in 2025, when revenue was 412.06M ₽. The comparison stays within one reporting standard — otherwise the decline could turn out to be a change of accounting rules and nothing more.
Net income for 2026 was 691.00M ₽.
Of every unit of revenue, 670.9 % remained as net income. This is the ratio of two figures already named above rather than a separate line from the report: comparing it across companies is meaningful only within one sector and one reporting standard.
Equity stands at 214.20B ₽ against total assets of 642.30B ₽. The difference between the two is the company's liabilities, and the larger it is relative to equity, the more the business depends on borrowed money.
This section is assembled from our own data on the company's securities, dividends and financial statements. It is a description, not a recommendation.
